In the 12th century, the first prisoner was Henry I. In the 13th century, Gruffydd ap Llewelyn, the fighter of Welsh Independence was imprisoned from 1241 to 1244. John de Balliol, King of Scotland was also imprisoned from 1297 to 1299 In the 14th century, William Wallace, fighter for Scottish Independence was imprisoned in 1305. David II, King of Scotland was in prison from 1346 to 1356. John II, King of France was here too from 1356 to 1360. The 15th century was when Charles, Duke of Orleans was there from 1415 to 1440.
